Service introduction

About our non-fiction book layout design service

Non-fiction readers often scan and return to sections, so structure is essential.

We design clear heading levels, lists, quotes, sidebars and image treatments that make your content easy to navigate.

Structure

Non-fiction layouts for books with a lot of moving parts

Non-fiction manuscripts arrive with footnotes, tables, figures, case studies, checklists and references, and each of those needs a treatment before a single page can be set.

We start with an element audit: everything that appears more than once gets a defined style. Tables are rebuilt properly rather than pasted as images, figures are numbered and cross-referenced, and notes are set as footnotes or endnotes depending on how your reader will use them. An index can be built from the final pagination if you need one.

  • Element audit and style definition before layout begins
  • Tables rebuilt natively, figures numbered and cross-referenced
  • Footnote, endnote, bibliography and index setting

We regularly take briefs from business, history and health authors across the US, UK, UAE and India. Send us your project details and we will reply with questions, an approach and a quote before any work starts.
